Enterprise Car Club has doubled in size in six months

Enterprise Car Club in Cardiff has more than doubled in size over the last six months. 

In a recently published White Paper, Cardiff council put forward measures to make car club vehicles easier to access for more people.

The expansion of car clubs is in line with the council’s plans to deliver more integrated public and shared transport, to reduce congestion, improve air quality and promote active and sustainable travel. 

Many people in major cities like Cardiff might own a car to only use it a few times a month when they make trips out of the city.

Being part of a car club is therefore increasingly being seen as a more cost-effective way to use a car, members can access different types of vehicles as and when they need them and do not have to pay the maintenance, insurance and upkeep costs.

Membership to the Enterprise club gives members access to over 1,400 low-emission, hybrid and electric vehicles in 180 cities and towns across the UK. 

In Cardiff, 18 low-emission vehicles are currently available for as little as £5.30 per hour parking. 

Carl Henderson, enterprise general manager for South Wales, said: ‘We are delighted with the growth of our service in Cardiff, and the support from the council and our members.

‘This forms part of our programme of expanding Enterprise Car Club across the UK, reaching communities large and small, to enable more flexible, low emission and value for money access to a car when that is the best choice for a trip.’

Cardiff University student, Laura Palmer said: ‘As a university student I can’t afford to run a car.

‘With a car club, I can rent when I need a car, paying by the hour. It’s simple to use and I can book a car in the most convenient location at that time.’

In related news, in February London Councils launched a new online resource to encourage motorists to make use of car clubs.
