Clean Air Day scheduled for June 16th 2022

Clean Air Day will take place on June 16 2022, charity Global Action Plan has announced.

To mark five years of the campaign, the charity has also published the Clean Air Day 2021 Celebration and Insights Report.

The report reveals that half of the UK public have now heard of Clean Air Day, with eight out of ten (82%) people believing that tackling air pollution should be a priority and six in ten (64%) saying that they now choose to walk or cycle instead of using a car for short journeys.

In 2021, Clean Air Day saw over 350 events organised across the country, with over 30,000 social media posts. More than 270 organisations are now also official Clean Air Day supporters.

Larissa Lockwood, Director of Clean Air at Global Action Plan, the charity behind Clean Air Day said: ‘It is wonderful to see how the Clean Air Day campaign has grown in size, ambition and impact each year. Clean Air Day is a recognised annual event and is making a real difference to how people understand and act on air pollution that helps to protect people’s health and tackle the climate crisis.’

Global Action Plan hope that Clean Air Day 2022 will continue to provide resources to enable individuals, business, schools, the healthcare sector and local authorities to take action to reduce air pollution and come together to reflect on the differences we can all make.

Great idea but why in the springtime? Pollution from road raffic fumes and smoke from chimneys & bonfires might be worse (and more obvious) in the autumn. Easy to forget about winter pollution when it’s warm & sunny. On the other hand, might be unreasonable to expect people to show up for outdoor events when the air quality is poor. Do we need two Clean Air days?
