We are delighted to announce that the 2025 National Air Quality Conference will be returning to Prospero House in London, taking place on 4th November. This will be our 6th edition of the event, and as ever, we will be bringing together some of the most important policymakers & leading academics who are working on solutions to the challenges created by air pollution and clean air provision. Our exhibition will also profile organisations who are offering solutions to the challenges we face in delivering improved air quality.

Jon Burke MIEMA CEnv
For six years, Jon was Councillor for the London Borough of Hackney, ending up as Cabinet Member for Energy, Sustainability, Transport and Public Realm. He delivered the largest urban tree planting programme in the UK, the UK’s largest number of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and School Streets, diverted 6,000 tonnes of black bag waste from incineration annually, adopted the World Health Organisation’s guidelines for particulate matter pollution, and delivered the UK’s first local authority green screen technical specification for deployment at pollution hotspots.
Prior to his time as a Hackney Cabinet Member, Jon spent almost a decade at the Greater London Authority advising Assembly Members on urban policy.
He is now Gloucester City Council Climate Change and Decarbonisation Lead, Climate Leadership Gloucestershire’s lead officer for climate change adaptation, and holds advisory roles with Climate Emergency U.K and Create Streets.
Nick Smith, Head of the UK portfolio at the Clean Air Fund
Nick is Head of the UK portfolio at the Clean Air Fund. In this role Nick is responsible for developing strategies and projects that will encourage stronger action to address air pollution in the UK. Before leading Clean Air Fund’s UK portfolio, Nick was Head of the CEO’s Office, where he worked as Chief of Staff to the CEO, Jane Burston.
Prior to joining the Clean Air Fund Nick worked at the National Citizen Service, one of the UK’s largest development programmes for young people, where he held several roles, including Head of Strategy. Nick started his career in the private sector, working in strategy consultancy. Nick is a trustee at Citizens Advice East End, a local charity providing information and advice services in East London.
Nicola Pastore, Co-Founder & Director, Solve the School Run
Nicola has 3 young children and co-founded Solve the School Run as a direct response to the road danger and air pollution her family faces on their short walk to school each day. She has a background in data analytics, having spent 15 years in finance and analysis roles in industry and consulting.
Solve the School Run is a parent led charity that combines unique data insights with experience of real-world parent powered solutions to help families, local authorities and communities cut congestion and reduce road danger on the streets around our schools.
Dr. Abi Whitehouse, Senior Clinical Lecturer in Children’s Environmental Health at Queen Mary University of London
Dr. Abi Whitehouse is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Children’s Environmental Health at Queen Mary University of London and an Honorary Paediatric Respiratory Consultant. She co-leads the Barts Charity Children’s Environmental Health Clinic, focusing on how air pollution harms children’s health.
Her work integrates pollution monitoring, home assessments, and social prescribing into asthma care. By using digital tools to analyse air quality and working closely with communities, Dr. Whitehouse designs care pathways that reduce respiratory illness and health inequalities. She leads a multidisciplinary team translating research into real-world solutions for cleaner air and healthier children.
Daniel Marsh, Programme Manager, Centre for Low Emission Construction
Daniel is a research scientist working as part of the aerosol sciences team at the Environmental Research Group, Imperial College London, combining air pollution science, toxicology and epidemiology to determine the impacts of air pollution on health.
He is the programme manager for the Centre of Low Emission Construction (CLEC) that aims to raise awareness of the impact of dust and emissions on local air quality and health across the construction industry. CLEC conducts ‘real world’ emissions and occupational exposure measurement across active construction sites as well as promoting the uptake of ‘best in class’ mitigation and emerging technologies.
Daniel sits on working groups with both the GLA and IAQM producing guidance for the construction and demolition industry, local authority planning and air quality officers and environmental consultants.
EarthSense Air Quality Monitoring Case Study
Elle Winning, Air Quality Lead, The West Midlands Combined Authority
Elle leads on the delivery of regional air quality work across the West Midlands which involves bringing regional partners together to strategically work towards improving air quality, for better health and environmental outcomes. Work has included delivering the WMCA Defra air quality grant funded project, including the launch of the West Midlands regional air quality sensor network and most recently, the delivery of the WMCA Air Quality Framework.
David Green, Head of Product, EarthSense
David brings over 13 years of experience in the air quality sector. He has specialist expertise in odour and nuisance monitoring, low-cost sensor technologies, and reference-grade systems. David is dedicated to harnessing technology to alleviate the impacts of poor air quality and to make high-quality data accessible, empowering communities to make informed decisions about their health and environment.
David and Elle will explain how EarthSense’s Network QAQC is being applied across the WMCA’s regional sensor rollout. Together, they’ll explore project outcomes, early community insights and the role of real-time data in identifying pollution hotspots and informing public health strategy. Whether you’re managing local networks or shaping regional air quality policy, this session offers a practical look at how QAQC transforms data into meaningful action.
