Speakers gear up for second air quality conference

Second annual National Air Quality Conference due to take place in Birmingham on October 1

Preparations are well underway for the second National Air Quality Conference, hosted by AirQualityNews.com on October 1.

This year’s conference is taking place at The Studio in Birmingham, and will reflect on what has been a landmark year for air quality in the UK as well as looking to future developments in the field.

The National Air Quality Conference 2015 follows on from the 2014 conference which took place in London

Issues up for discussion will include the formulation of the government’s revised air quality plan, which is due to be put together by the end of the year, following a major Supreme Court ruling.

Speakers will also discuss work on cutting vehicle emissions, urban transport policy and the future of diesel cars.

Among those already confirmed on the bill is Andrew Taylor, air quality policy manager at the Scottish Government, who will update delegates on work to revise Scotland’s Low Emission Strategy.

Speaking ahead of the Conference Mr Taylor said: “Clean air is essential for our health and wellbeing, and for protecting the environment. Although much progress has been made in reducing air pollution over recent years, there is still a lot more to do.

“Scotland’s first national Low Emission Strategy is currently being finalised, which will set out the contribution that better air quality can make to sustainable economic growth and quality of life for the citizens of Scotland. The National Air Quality Conference provides an opportunity to hear more about this important development in air quality policy.”

Also confirmed on the lineup is Alan Andrews, environmental lawyer at ClientEarth, which led the legal case against the government on its air quality policy and Steve Mcnamara general secretary of the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association.
